All parents and caregivers share the core goal of keeping their babies well-nourished and growing strong during their infant feeding journey. As general pediatrician and mother Dr. Beth Elston highlights, rigid feeding expectations often fall short of everyday reality. Protecting a mother’s mental health and supporting her decisions, whether breastfeeding, formula-feeding, or combo-feeding, is essential for the entire family.

While cow’s milk formula has long been the standard choice, common issues like gas, bloating, and discomfort lead many parents to search for gentler options. Goat milk has emerged as a practical alternative, with Kabrita leading the way as a trusted specialist.

If you’re considering goat milk baby formula or looking for where to buy Kabrita formula, this guide covers everything you need to know. We’ll review Kabrita Goat Milk Formula, exploring how it compares to cow’s milk organic baby formula options, its nutrition facts and ingredients, digestive benefits, preparation steps, and where to buy it in the USA.

Goat Milk Formula as a Cow Milk Formula Alternative

Goat milk infant formula serves as a complete nutritional option designed to support healthy growth in babies, demonstrating a safety profile comparable to traditional cow’s milk formulas.

It relies on the naturally delicate structure of goat milk protein, which forms a softer curd in a baby's stomach compared to cow's milk. This gentle curd breaks down smoothly, helping ease everyday digestive friction like mild gas or minor spit-up.

Protein Profile Differences

The primary structural difference between cow and goat milk lies in their beta-casein protein profiles.

Standard cow’s milk contains primarily A1 beta-casein protein, which forms a firmer curd in the stomach during digestion.

In contrast, goat milk consists almost entirely of A2 beta-casein protein. When interacting with digestive enzymes, A2 protein forms a soft, porous curd that breaks down easily, promoting comfortable gastric emptying and efficient protein breakdown.

Oligosaccharide Profile

Oligosaccharides are complex carbohydrates that can serve as natural prebiotics. Goat milk contains higher natural levels of these prebiotic structures than cow’s milk, helping nourish beneficial microbiota (such as Bifidobacteria) and supporting natural bowel regularity.

Fatty Acid Structure

The natural fat structure of goat milk features smaller fat globule sizes and a rich distribution of short- and medium-chain fatty acids (SCFAs and MCFAs). These smaller fat molecules allow lipases to break them down smoothly, providing readily available dietary energy.

Micronutrient Profile

Kabrita is fortified with iron, vitamin D and the other nutrients infant formula requires. Iron differs by version: about 0.75 mg per 100 kcal in European Stage 1 and 1.2 mg in the US formula. Ask your pediatrician whether your baby needs extra iron.

What’s in Kabrita? Ingredients Explained

Kabrita brings decades of infant nutrition expertise from the Netherlands to families worldwide, where it combines Dutch dairy traditions with scientific research. In July 2023,Kabrita reached a major milestone when its 0–12 Month Infant Formula successfully met all U.S. FDA safety and nutritional requirements for domestic distribution.

This means that Kabrita fully satisfies the FDA’s safety and nutritional requirements for infant formulas marketed in the U.S., offering American parents a trusted goat milk option backed by rigorous quality standards.

Gentler Predominant A2 Beta-Casein Protein

At the foundation of Kabrita’s formula is natural goat milk, which naturally contains predominantly A2 beta-casein protein with only minimal trace amounts of A1. By comparison, standard cow’s milk formulas are dominant in A1 beta-casein and contain comparatively less A2.

Like other goat milk formulas, Kabrita, with its predominant A2 beta-casein protein, forms a softer, more porous curd when it reacts with natural stomach acids. This gentle curd structure breaks down more easily, supporting smooth digestive transit and helping keep your baby relaxed and comfortable after feeds.

Adapted 60:40 Whey-to-Casein Ratio

Kabrita fortifies its formula with added goat whey protein to achieve an adapted 60:40 whey-to-casein ratio, matching the natural protein proportion found in human breast milk.

Whey protein remains liquid in the stomach, further accelerating digestive transit and reducing the workload on your baby's developing gastrointestinal tract.

Furthermore, Kabrita relies exclusively on gentle goat dairy proteins, containing zero soy ingredients for its European version. Its U.S. contains refined soybean oil, which Kabrita says carries no soy protein.

Readily Digestible Fat Blend with Sn-2 Palmitate

Kabrita features a specialized vegetable oil blend engineered with high Sn-2 palmitate (beta-palmitate), which mirrors the specific molecular fat positioning found in human breast milk.

In formulas made with ordinary palm olein, palmitic acid can bind calcium in the gut and form soaps, which studies link to firmer stools and lower calcium absorption. Sn-2 palmitate places palmitic acid similar to where breast milk does, which reduces soap formation.

Kabrita’s fat blend is designed to deliver the benefits of Sn‑2 palmitate while maintaining a clean, carefully selected oil profile suited for infant nutrition.

To support early brain, nervous system, and visual development, Kabrita is also enriched with DHA and ARA.

Lactose as the Primary Carbohydrate Source

Kabrita prioritizes high-quality, clean ingredients by avoiding inexpensive carbohydrate fillers like corn syrup solids and sucrose, or maltodextrin. Instead, Kabrita utilizes lactose, the primary carbohydrate naturally present in human milk, as its main energy source.

Lactose provides a steady, gentle release of glucose to fuel rapid brain growth and physical activity, while also helping to establish a favorable, low-pH environment in the infant gut that encourages healthy metabolic function.

Dual Prebiotic Support for Gut Flora

Kabrita supports your baby’s gut ecosystem by pairing naturally occurring goat milk oligosaccharides with added galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS). These non-digestible prebiotic fibers pass through the upper digestive tract to the colon, where they serve as selective nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria, particularly Bifidobacteria.

Maintaining a strong prebiotic foundation encourages smooth digestion, supports intestinal barrier integrity, and contributes to softer bowel movements.

Balanced Micronutrient Profile

Kabrita is thoughtfully fortified with a full spectrum of essential vitamins, minerals, and iron to ensure complete single-source nutrition for growing infants.

Because the minerals naturally found in goat milk, such as calcium, phosphorus, and iron, demonstrate high natural bioavailability, they are readily absorbed across the intestinal wall.

This high absorption rate ensures your baby receives the nutrients needed for strong bone development and healthy blood cell production without leaving excess unabsorbed minerals in the gut to cause digestive sluggishness.

Mild, Fresh Taste Profile

Many parents assume goat milk formula has a strong or sharp taste. In reality, Kabrita has a mild, creamy flavor because it’s made using fresh goat milk from select family farms in the Netherlands.

Processed under strict European quality controls and delicate spray-drying techniques, Kabrita delivers a fresh, light, creamy, and naturally sweet taste. This mild flavor profile makes it palatable for infants, facilitating a smooth transition whether you are supplementing breast milk or switching from another formula.

Choosing the Right Kabrita Goat Milk Formula Stage

Infants undergo rapid physiological and nutritional changes as they grow, requiring formulas tailored to their precise developmental stages. In line with European Union and UK regulations, Kabrita carefully structures its formula lineup into distinct, numbered stages:

Stage

Target Age

Primary Focus

Stage 1 (Infant)

0 to 6 months

Complete nutrition designed for newborns and early infancy.

Stage 2 (Follow-on)

6 to 12 months

Formulated to complement the introduction of solid foods.

Stage 3 (Toddler)

12+ months

Designed to fill nutrient gaps during the active toddler phase.

Important Note: For Kabrita formulas manufactured for domestic distribution in the U.S., Kabrita offers a unified 0 to 12 Month Infant Formula as well as dedicated 12 to 24 Month Toddler and 2+ Years Junior tins.

Formuland features Kabrita’s European lineup because European regulatory standards mandate specialized, stage-by-stage nutritional profiles that adapt as your baby grows, alongside strict restrictions on added sugars and processing.

The table below outlines these key distinctions between Kabrita’s EU and U.S. formulations:

Feature

Kabrita USA

Kabrita EU

Why this matters

Product structure

  • Single infant formula for 0 to 12 months (no stages).
  • Toddler Nutrition (12 to 24 mo)
  • Junior (24+ mo)

Three staged formulas:

  • Stage 1 (0 to 6 mo)
  • Stage 2 (6 to 12 mo)
  • Stage 3 (12+ mo)

Staging lets EU formulas tailor protein, minerals, and energy density to developmental needs; parents can progress as baby grows.

Primary carbohydrate

Lactose + glucose syrup solids.

Lactose + small amount of glucose syrup (used as a nutrient carrier).

Both rely on lactose; EU explicitly frames glucose syrup as a minimal carrier for vitamins/minerals.

Fat/oil blend

Soybean oil, high‑oleic sunflower oil, coconut oil, high 2‑palmitic acid vegetable oil (palm oil).

Coconut oil, rapeseed (canola) oil, sunflower oil, high sn‑2 palmitic acid oil; no soybean oil listed in Stage 1 ingredient summary.

EU blend avoids soybean oil and uses rapeseed/sunflower; both include sn‑2 palmitate for softer stools and better calcium/fat absorption.

Whey:casein ratio

~60:40 (breast‑milk‑like).

~50:50 in Stage 1 (adjusted via goat whey concentrate).

Both are adapted for digestibility; EU’s 50:50 is still close to breast milk and tuned per stage.

Iron level

1.2 mg/100 kcal (slightly lower than many US formulas, but within FDA/EU limits).

Complies with EU infant formula regulations (specific mg/100 kcal varies by stage and label).

EU staging allows iron and mineral adjustments matched to age/development.

Regulatory frame

Meets US FDA infant formula requirements; manufactured in the Netherlands under EU safety standards.

Complies with EU infant formula regulations (stricter limits on certain contaminants, mandatory DHA, labeling rules).

EU rules mandate DHA and set tight compositional/contaminant limits.

Labeling and transparency

US‑style Supplement Facts; ingredient list includes glucose syrup solids and palm‑derived sn‑2 oil.

EU‑style nutrition declaration; non‑GMO and no added sugars/flavors/colors.

Transparent ingredient list and nutrition facts reassure detail‑oriented parents.

Switching to Kabrita Goat Milk Formula

Introducing a new formula to your baby requires patience and care, as an infant’s gut enzymes and microflora need time to adjust to new protein structures and lipid blends. Whether you’re transitioning from breast milk, introducing combination feeding, or switching from a cow’s milk formula, following a gradual transition strategy helps ensure optimal digestive tolerance and baby comfort.

From Breast Milk

If you’re transitioning from breast milk or starting combination feeding, introduce Kabrita gradually. Start by replacing one bottle feed with Kabrita for 2 to 3 days, giving your baby’s digestion time to adjust comfortably.

From Another Formula Milk Brand

Kabrita says you can switch from another formula in one step, although a gradual transition over 5 to 7 days can be another alternative to consider:

  • Days 1 to 2: 75% current formula + 25% Kabrita
  • Days 3 to 4: 50% current formula + 50% Kabrita
  • Days 5 to 6: 25% current formula + 75% Kabrita
  • Day 7: 100% Kabrita
A happy baby smiling at the person behind the camera.

What to Expect During the Transition

As your baby adapts to Kabrita’s A2 goat milk profile and specialized fat blend, it’s completely normal to observe minor shifts in their typical feeding routines and diaper patterns during the first 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Stool Changes: Stools may become softer due to the Sn-2 palmitate fat blend.
  • Mild Gas: Slight adjustments in gut flora can cause minor, temporary gas during the first week.
  • High Acceptance: Most infants accept Kabrita smoothly thanks to its mild, naturally sweet taste.

Stool color, frequency and texture often change for a week or two after any formula switch. Call your pediatrician if you see blood or mucus in stool, repeated vomiting, a rash, fewer wet diapers, or hard stools that last more than a few days.

How to Prepare Kabrita Formula

Kabrita’s formula milk powder dissolves easily, but controlling your water temperature is key to preserving heat-sensitive vitamins while ensuring safety during formula preparation. Always follow the specific scoop-to-water ratios indicated on your tin, as measurements vary by developmental stage.

Step 1 - Clean and Sterilize

Wash your hands, then clean bottles, teats, and rings after every feed. A dishwasher run with hot water and a heated-dry or sanitized setting also sanitizes them; otherwise, boil or steam them. Babies under 2 months, born early or with a weakened immune system need the most care.

Step 2 - Boil and Cool Water

Follow the instructions on your can, since labels differ by version.

For babies under 2 months, born prematurely or with a weakened immune system, CDC recommends an extra step: boil the water, wait about 5 minutes (it will still be around 158°F), mix in the powder, then cool the bottle under cold running water.

Step 3 - Water First, Then Powder

Pour the precise volume of prepared warm water into the bottle before adding the powder. Adding powder first can alter the final volume ratio and lead to clumping.

Step 4 - Mix, Test, and Serve

Cap the bottle securely and shake well until the powder completely dissolves. Test a few drops on the inside of your wrist to ensure a safe temperature, and begin feeding within 2 hours of mixing and within 1 hour of starting the feed.

If you won’t use it within 2 hours, refrigerate it right away and use it within 24 hours. Once opened, keep the can tightly closed in a cool, dry place, not the fridge, and use it within the time on the label. Write the opening date on the lid.

Step 5 - Discard Leftovers and Store Tins Properly

Always discard any unfinished formula left in the bottle after a feed, as bacteria multiply rapidly once a baby's saliva touches the teat. Once opened, seal the tin tightly, store it in a cool, dry place, and use it within three weeks (don’t refrigerate the dry powder).

Preparing Kabrita with Baby Brezza Formula Pro

Automated formula preparation machines offer convenience for busy parents, but establishing the correct setting is critical to guarantee the machine dispenses the accurate ratio of water to powder for proper baby nutrition and hydration.

Because powder densities vary across different formula stages and regional packaging formats, always align your device with the exact settings approved for your specific Kabrita tin. If you use a Baby Brezza, set its settings for your exact can and machine model before the first bottle.
